Emphasis is shifting to the increased use of PNG for residential, industrial and commercial applications in Asia as natural gas is cheaper, relatively abundant and environment-friendly. India and China, where penetration of gas distribution is the lowest, are doubling their investments and capacities: India - with an additional 14,000 km length of city gas distribution network to be completed before 2015, at an investment of USD 7 billion and China - doubling its natural gas consumption before 2015 to 20 billion cu.mt from 8 billion cu.mt.

Established markets such as Hong Kong, S. Korea, Japan and Singapore are seeking to improve the PNG consumption by implementing innovative and energy efficient gas based appliances.

5 Interactive panel discussions moderated by industry experts

A: Urban underground components for efficient construction/operation of CGD infrastructure

B: Minimising T & D losses by enhancing institutional skills and early technology adoption

C: Improving PNG’s commercial viability: developing gas-based appliances

D: Relevance and need for integrating new trends in O & M of CGD infrastructure

E: Ensuring commercial success while developing new gas distribution infrastructure

With So Much Opportunity, There Are Fresh Challenges Faced By The Stakeholders:

  • ensuring unhindered gas supply
  • investing into infrastructure which has a longer ROI period
  • improving coverage and retaining customers
  • operating and maintaining the CGD infrastructure efficiently
  • integrating new infrastructure into existing underground networks
  • providing new gas-based appliances to the end-users

City Gas Asia 2013 will be the regional platform for city gas distribution owners, design consultants, construction contractors and technology providers to identify cost efficient solutions for a sustainable CGD industry.
